Ready to take a leap?

You can’t tiptoe into social media. You have to jump into the pool. People have a natural fear of it. But the scary part is not being there. Your customer is already there.” Dave Saunders
Doing something is the scary bit. The people we would like to reach with the rich content new media can deliver, are already swimming. You going to stand and watch other people join them, or take the plunge?
It might not be as ubiquitous or pervasive as experienced in developed cities and nations, but social media is massively popular in almost every part of the developing world. Think Arab Spring. Think SMS banking in Kenya. Think how 53% of internet access in Africa last year was via mobile devices.
How can social media bring hope where there isn’t much, or truth and justice, where those basic rights are not often seen, let alone experienced?
Seems to me that we have to fix our eyes on that pool, then take a running leap, and dive right in and not being afraid to get some deep-end training. Just do it!
To stand around the pool and debate how warm is the water, is pretty much the same as endlessly talking about the importance of new media, and how we might start to do it.
In OneSheep, we have done a bit of the edge standing, but now we have taken a great big leap of faith, trusting our Heavenly Father is going to help us help lots of others to use new media for effective ministry. Come on in, the water’s perfect!
